WEC Champ Ben Henderson A Sell Out?

The biblical figure Samson generated his strength by his long, flowing locks of hair, but World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight titleholder Ben Henderson isn't bound by such a curse.

Henderson tells MMAInisder Blog that he'd cut his hair for the right price.

"I like the hair. There isn't a problem with it," Henderson told MMAInsider Blog. "It's cool, but I'm not so attached to it that if the WEC offered me a bunch of money I would definitely sell out. It's just hair."

The hair isn't what makes Ben Henderons "smooth."

"If it came down to money or whatever, I would definitely sell out," said the WEC lightweight champion.

Ben Henderson OK, Jan/Feb Title Bout Under Consideration

Other than the usual bumps and bruises, newly crowned WEC interim lightweight champion Ben Henderson is healthy and in great spirits after his fight of the year candidate with Donald Cerrone at WEC 43 on Saturday.

Henderson took a brief trip to a San Antonio hospital after the fight to evaluate his eye for an upkick he took in last thirty seconds of the fifth round, and was released Saturday night. No other serious injuries were detected.

The 25 year-old Korean-American fighter flew back home on Sunday, where more than 200 fans, friends, and family were waiting for him at his gym, The Lab, in Glendale, Ariz. He signed autographs and took pictures for two hours.

A bout to unify the lightweight title is under consideration for January or February in Phoenix, according to Beck, where The Lab sits across town from Varner's gym, Arizona Combat Sports.

On Saturday, both Varner and Henderson welcomed a December date. Varner was recently cleared to spar after suffering with a hand injury he sustained in a bout with Cerrone in January at WEC 38. Still, it appears Henderson will need more time before he starts camp for Varner.

Varner Responds To Cerrone, Picks Henderson

Donald Cerrone left little to the imagination regarding his feelings for lightweight champion Jamie Varner and the hand injury that's keeping him from defending his title in September.

"Maybe Varner will come back in 2010 to unify the belt," he said. "But they might have to break his arm off and get him a new one. Can I add that Jaime Varner is a (expletive)?”

Varner wasn't too happy about that when contacted by MMAInsider.

"This (expletive) kicked his ass for five rounds with a broken hand and a broken foot," snapped Varner. "So I'm glad we're resorting to name-calling, you can tell he comes from an educated family. He definitely solidified himself as a true hillbilly. A classless hillbilly. And I look forward to stomping his face in again."

Varner said he will release x-ray images of his damaged hand next week. At the moment, there is no concrete timetable for his return.

As for the match-up that would determine the next challenger to his belt, an likely interim title bout between Cerrone and Ben Henderson, Varner went with his Arizona brethren.

"I think it's going to be a great fight, but I see Ben Henderson winning that one," he said. "Cerrone is just too easy to take down, and Henderson's a pretty decent wrestler. He's still a good wrestler, very explosive. He's also got great jiu-jitsu, trained with Alvin Robinson. He's a southpaw, so the fact that Cowboy likes to use his left leg kicks a lot, really aren't going to help him too much against that southpaw. I just see him getting taken down and ground out for a three-round decision."

Ben Henderson: Powered By Kimchi

Lightweight Ben Henderson racked up his second victory in the WEC on Sunday, stopping Shane Roller with a vicious straight left inside two minutes of the first round.

The Glendale, Ariz., resident was expecting to go the distance--and fend off a lot of guillotine chokes, a favored technique of Roller--but had to settle for a quick fight.

"I was ready to have a war, but our game plan worked out extremely well for me," Henderson told MMAInsider.

The win may have bought him a little more leeway with his mom, who was not too happy to hear her son had forgone a double major in sociology and criminal justice to be a mixed martial artist.

To celebrate the win, the half-Korean Henderson binged on Korean food. His favorite dish, not surprisingly, is kimchi.

"It’s great for you," he said. "Kimchi power all the way."

Henderson doesn't have any preference on who he faces next.

"I don't want to sound like every other fighter, but anybody," he said. "I fought a really good kickboxer last time, and fought a really good wrestler this time, so whoever they want to match me up with."
