Chuck Liddell First MMA Fighter To Get Waxed

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell will be immortalized in wax May 29 at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. The 40-year-old fighter will be the first mixed martial arts athlete to be inducted into the famed collection, located in front of the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino.

The Liddell figure will be officially unveiled Friday, May 28 at 10:30am PT in front of thousands of fans gathered at the UFC Fan Expo taking place May 28-29 at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. It will then be moved to Madame Tussauds Las Vegas and placed on display inside a UFC Octagon, along with Liddell's trunks and UFC championship belt.

Over 100 world-famous figures, each costing an average of $300,000 to create, are featured at the attraction at one time, in various themed areas, and to keep the offerings "fresh" the attraction's designers regularly spotlight new and exciting exhibits, such as the latest additions of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears wax figures, which made their debuts at other Madame Tussauds worldwide locations but are brand new to the Las Vegas attraction.

Among its recent debut figures in Las Vegas were Snoop Dogg, Kathy Griffin and President Barack Obama and the "Oval Office Experience."

Brian Stann: UFC Fighter, Twitter Advocate

Former WEC light heavyweight champion and current UFC fighter Brian Stann listens to the fans.

A big advocate of Twitter, the "All-American," who has more than 800 followers, says he owes everything he has to the fans and they deserve every bit of what little he can offer.

"I'm trying man, I'm trying," he said of his recent Twittering accolades.

"Some of it's forced, but I try not to go too much into politics on my Twitter because I don't want to upset people, but I'm getting there.

"This sport -- anybody that's in it, were only going to last so long," said Stann.

"We're really the lucky ones that we even get to do it. We put up with some stuff, we got some smack talked about us, but they're really the best fans in the world that follow us on this thing and that pay attention to this sport and its fun," he added.

"It's fun to respond back to them. It's fun to keep them updated. I'm just really honored that anyone is that interested in my career that they would follow me and I really thank them for that.

"The sport has blown up. I used to leave my WEC fight, go to Lucky's and have a bite to eat and meet 10-15 people that came and were rooting for me during the fight and that was great to spend 15 minutes with them. But now, being in the UFC, the sport has gotten so big," said the 29-year-old Marine.

"You hit the lobby of the hotel and there's just a lot of people there and I think it's part of our job to stop and talk to those fans. The ticket prices are so high that people save all year long to watch us fight and that means a lot to them and they deserve that.

"We're not better than any one of them and they're basically paying our salaries. So they're paying for that time with you and you better give it to them."

UFC U.K. Pres on April Abu Dhabi Event and New Arena

Yahoo! Sports Cagewriter blogger Steve Cofield recently did a great radio interview with UFC U.K. president Marshall Zelaznik, going in depth on the promotion's plans for an April 10 event in Abu Dhabi.

Zelaznik talked about the building of a brand new arena, specifically for UFC events in Abu Dhabi, and basically confirmed plans that the UFC and their new partners at Flash Entertainment -- a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi government -- are still working to put on an April event there.

But they do have a back-up plan, as they always do.

"We keep a chart of all the venues we're holding around the world... so in the event as we are moving forward with an April event, if we can't do one venue, we can almost turn the switch and just go to another venue," said Zelaznik.

"So whether April happens in Abu Dhabi or another place, there will obviously be an April event."
