Ken Shamrock on Thursday issued an open letter explaining the occurences at the recent CBS-EliteXC Saturday Night Fights in Florida that kept him out of the scheduled main event with Kimbo Slice. He also apologized to his fans:The scheduled bout with Kimbo on the EliteXC/CBS Saturday Night Fight card was a great opportunity, and it is unfortunate that I was unable to face Kimbo as planned. I want to apologize to all of my fans, and to the EliteXC and CBS executives who worked so hard to put this fight together. I also want to apologize to Kimbo, Bas Rutten and their entire camp for what happened. I recognize that I put them in a very bad situation, particularly Kimbo. It's difficult to walk into the ring after training for one opponent only to find out hours before the fight that you have to face some you don't know or have never seen fight.
Over the years there have been many great times as well as disappointing times and I know Saturday the fans were as disappointed as I was. I was worked up so I decided to train with my partners in order to stay focused on the fight. I was just doing a light roll to check holds when I got caught by a head butt. It was a freak accident and I didn't think anything of it until I saw drops of blood. It appeared to be a deep laceration so I had my physician look at it and we immediately went to the emergency room. When they said the cut would require stitches, my heart sank because I knew that the Florida Boxing Commission would not let me fight. I was disappointed because I knew this was an opportunity to give the fans, my friends, and my family something to cheer about. It has been a hard couple of years for me, and for my fans. I have suffered some disappointing losses. I definitely regret my decision to train on the day of the fight.
I promise that I will make this up to all my fans. I know that there is nothing I can do about what occurred, but I plan to get back into the ring soon. I would like it to be against Kimbo Slice. Hopefully EliteXC/CBS will still be able to put a fight together. It's is the right thing to do. The fans want it and I want it.

I think that Kan't Shamerock should just fade away quietly while he still has some credibility. Maybe rasslin is more his speed. After seeing the pitifull show at the weigh in, I hope he just goes away. with the shove in the back he gave Kimbo it looks like he wants to blend MMA with some stupid rasslin show. We do not want true competitive athletes acting like bafoons. Please Kan't, just go away.
He can't just ride off into the sunset now! He has left himself a huge "what if" on his career and it would be tough to leave those unanswered questions. I think ProElite will set this match again in the upcoming months.
A win over Slice only proves Ken can bring his 1996 self back, not prove he can beat a modern era fighter. He doesn't need to beat him in order to prove he was THE MAN back in the day.

Obviously Ken was THE MAN and is certainly one of the greats. I just think he needs dough and it would be a good re-match so to speak, even though they never fought, re-match, whatever, it would draw eyeballs and frankly I think Kevin would want that match too to get a lucky punch and stay in the limelight a little longer...?
Ken Shamrock, how quickly we forget the greats. The backbone of MMA was built on the foundation of AMAZING FIGHTERS.. like Ken Shamrock. It really disturbs me when I see posts left by anonymous people - if you have so much wisdom to share - leave your name or an identity so that people can you know... actually care what you post. Ken Shamrock in 1996 could have beaten Kimbo Slice, I don't doubt that, no modern-era fighting to it... straight up logic. Their bodies do get older fellas ... and if you're not in the ring thumpin it with Ken Shamrock.. then hell who are you to say "go away"?
