Arizona Combat Sports' prospect Aaron Simpson is at a crossroads in his future with Zuffa, LLC.
Simpson's short-notice World Extreme Cagefighting debut was a smashing success. It took him just 18 seconds to lay out jiu-jitsu ace David Avellan at WEC 36 last month. Unfortunately, it was one of the final WEC shows to feature middleweights.
Simpson was one of the lucky ones to receive an inviation to the UFC following the change, but he may not be in a hurry to get there.
According to Simpson's manager, Jason Genet of LG Sports Marketing, he might be giving the WEC welterweight division a shot.
Genet said Simpson is currently undergoing a "mock cut" to 170 pounds and expects to know soon whether he can safely make the weight. If he can, you can expect to see him make his welterweight debut in the near future in the WEC. If not, he will make his way to the UFC Octagon.
