Dana White Believes GSP Cornerman Cheated

Neil Davidson of the Canadian Press recently spoke with Dana White, who pulled no punches about how he feels about Georges St. Pierre's cornerman, Phil Nurse, and his alleged illegal application of Vaseline in St. Pierre's fight against B.J. Penn at UFC 94.

Exactly, I dont care if it looked like they wiped it all off. He was still slippery. The vaseline mixed with the sweat makes him even greasier. I love GSP but he did not need that. I am sure people will be watching him closely. George always looks kind of greasy when he comes out. My god I hope there are not people in the MMA business that use the old lotion, vaseline etc to gain and edge.

If you think bj should stay at 155 then shut the hell up about it! All this talk is going to lead to a rematch-which I would like to see so that GSP can beat him without the controversy. The problem is that with people like BJ he is always going to find some excuse why he did not win.
The bottome line is that the vaseline didn't make him quit! If you are not having success with what you are doing-then try something else. If just shows how limited his skill set is.

Please, please, please, PLEASE let them fight again, Dana! PLEAAAAASE! It would be a winning situation for the UFC and the fans. I don't care what the PPV would cost - I'd pay ANYTHING to see BJ get his sorry ass kicked AGAIN. Please, Dana - make it happen soon so all this bullsh*t can be put to rest.

pretty ignorant of you to say anonymous 2...pretty dam ignorant. how is skill, gong to help if he was greased, and bj kept swinging up high guard, and so that would mean his legs would have been greased also...how is he supposed to puch off, if his leegs are greased as well? he worked twice as hard at doing evrerything bc of the initial attack of gsp, plus the grease, tiring him out even faster. whats your skill set? make ignorant comments on mma publications, and leave it at that. id love to fight you, and show you some skill.

As a BJJ artist, I can attest that no-gi grappling is difficult when you and your opponent are sweaty and slippery. The added element of vaseline (mixed with sweat) would no doubt make a high guard/rubber guard difficult to use. HOWEVER, BJ's attempted utilization of the high guard was lazy and loose. He was a desperate and beaten fighter by the time he was on his back in the 3rd. BJ got beat up, plain and simple. GSP said it himself post-fight..."if you want to do a re-match, I will wear a rash guard. The outcome will be the same!"

I am in no way saying that greasing is OK...in fact it is very weak and bush-league and i would like to think that Jackson's camp (IMO the best in the sport) would not attempt to employ such tactics. Hopefully in the future, adjustments will be made to make sure this is never an argument/excuse again.

I am surprised that people don't mention BJ's high guard more often. GSP easily passed as soon as BJ brought his legs down. I am not accusing anyone of anything. I just think that there are certain things that have to be considered. I was impressed with how fast BJ went to work off of his back. I have never seen anything like it. He has great skills.

Brian, guess I really struck a nerve with u. As obvious as it is that you are bj penn fan I will respond. The skill set I was refering to meant using something beside his bjj skills. If it wasn't working in the 1st and 2nd rounds then he should have spent the 3rd and 4th rounds trying something other than lying on his back! Perhaps his muay thai skills, perhaps his takedown defense, perhaps his wrestling skills-he didn't use these because he doesn't have them!
And the only ignorance on the board is by you challenging someone to a fight because u disagree with their opinion!

brian....speaking of ignorant. check your spelling there, ass-clown. Please try not to be so bitter about your boy getting the proper beatdown. fuck you and fuck BJ.

Bottom line: Phil Nurse's name is Mud: M.U.D. in this game forever now.

I was torn on who I wanted to win in this one since I love both fighters. But with all things considered, I don't think things will be much different in a rematch without the vaseline. My prediction: GSP inside 5 rounds... again.

As much as I love BJ
Lets face the facts GSP bullied him around the whole fight, there was no offence coming from BJ.
BJ lost that fight
BJ quit!

BJ didn't quit. His corner and the DR called it off.

GSP should be disciplined for his corners actions. If the commission isn't going to do anything than the UFC should do it. Dana has the power to do it but he won't. I'm surprises Dana is even saying he knows GSP's corner cheated, instead of sweeping it under the rug. If you know they cheated then do something about it. The original match should be ruled a No Contest and a rematch should happen.

GSP cheated to take away a facet of BJ's game. It's like the boxing match with the tampered gloves... Would you say that's acceptable?:"They may have taken away the fighters ability to take punches but he could still throw them so he should have adapted to win the fight."

I agree with ruling the fight a no contest and having a rematch. It only makes sense why should GSP or anyone else for that matter be able to get away with cheating.I view this much worse than for example the Nick Diaz vs. Gomi ruling of a no contest for weed.Weed did not help Diaz win that fight. In the GSP vs.Penn fight the possibility of greasing could have changed the outcome IMO.

I've debated the weed question for a long time as to whether it helps athletes and should be illegal. And I have to agree with the suspensions.

An athlete will push his body harder and do things he shouldn't if he knew there was an out for the pain. There is a reason Wrestlers are all on pain killers because they do things their bodies can't handle. It's a stretch but I think it needs to happen for safety.
