Although Lyoto Machida's official website indicates his next fight being September 2009 with a photo of Quinton Jackson below that notice, UFC president Dana White says that he is not slated for the UFC 103 fight card expected for September."Not true," said White when asked if Machida was scheduled to fight at UFC 103.
"He will fight. We're working on it right now. As soon as it's signed, I'll announce it... which I'm hoping will be (Thursday or Friday)."
With White posting a photo on his Twitter account of himself meeting with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua on Tuesday, and Thursday's announcement of Quinton Jackson and Rashad Evans coaching on TUF 10 and fighting in December, current speculation is pointing at a bout between Shogun and Machida. Such a bout would likely take place late this summer or early fall.
But again, at this point, that is purely speculation at this point.

Quinton loses to Forrest and wins 2 fights he deserves it. Shogun loses to Forrest and wins 2 fights and he doesnt. Shogun is still the guy who absolutely smashed Quinton Jackson head to head.

Can't blame Shogun to seize the moment. With Rampage wanting Evans, which I don't blame him for that either because there is too much hype with that fight to postpone it. Majority of the guys in the division win one or two then lose one, so I feel it's hard to say who's the most deserving. I think Shogun-Machida will be a good one for the fans.

Anderson will never fight Lyoto because of their friendship, Shogun is a good matchup for Lyoto but I still dont believe he has anything but a puncher's chance and that is if he can hit him, Rampage has a better chance at beating Lyoto because he can take a solid shot and he looks for the knockout with every punch and he has the power to pull it off, as for saying Rashad and Rampage are the same type of fighter you have to be off your rocker for that one, sure they have the same base in boxing and wrestling but completely different fighters, Rampage is straight up go out there get his job done then joke around Rashad tries to be cocky and flashy while he is in the octagon that's why once he won the title I knew he was a one and done champion, look for Rashad's record to get it's second loss added on when he faces Rampage and tries to get lucky then just plain and simple gets knocked the **** out

Bull or not, deserving or not, Jackson isn't fighting Machida, and Machida isn't waiting until next year for his first title defense. So I think Shogun is a the next best opponent available right now!

i can name 2 that has done what fedor has done. GSP and anderson silva. they both have ruled in their divisions and beat the best of the best in their division.
i not saying that machida can beat fedor. but he is going to be known as the best fighter in the world p4p. he has already doing better than fedor. machida, never lost a round. on a average he gets hit maybe once every 2 mins, and also took the LHW crown in the ufc. he already sounds better than any other fighter on striking. all he has to do is beat everyone in his division now, and which he will do. so dont down play the guy. he is starting off better than fedor did. but machida would do pretty good against fedor. his striking is better. if it went to the ground i think fedor might be stronger. but who knows fedor is only going to fight old guy for the rest of his career so who cares about him now. he is the old mma.
