What a fuckin' shame. None of this means a thing now that their fight is off. God damn SHAME. I'm fine with guys going off to make movies, but in this case the whole TUF10 series was supposed to be hype for their fight. Frustrating. All the trash talk means zero now.

they'll still fight, just not right after the show. So yea, it sucks, but just remember they will meet up somewhere down the road. Maybe even just a couple of months later.

It is a shame, but let's remember, it took Serra and Hughes alot longer to finally hook 'em up. Let's hope it doesn't take that long. I do agree though, it's too bad the fire will have to fester on this one.

Yeah... What a shame, what a shame. That is the problem with talk... it is cheap. Money talks. I like Rampage but I lost a little bit of respect for him due to this lack of commitment to hid career

Rampage is ridiculous. He doesn't truly want to be a fighter. He wants to be a celebrity. He passed on the opportunity to fight Machida supposedly to settle a grudge with Rashad and now he goes to do a movie. Dana must be pissed for defending Rampage and saying he was dehydrated when he went crazy. Lost a ton of respect for Rampage on this one. At least Serra was injured.

Serra and Hughes did take a while to materialise... and when it did, it didn't mean the same thing. The fire was gone and it ended up being a "who cares" fight. A decent fight, but it meant nothing in the end. TUF10 will totally hype the dislike between Evans and Jackson... with no fight in sight for the near future. Too bad, really.

It's funny how everyone is jumping on Rampage for making this movie instead of fighting. When I bet everyone saying that would do the exact same thing. Put off your day job to do something you love and get more money at that. Really be honest and just say your upset because you just really like watching him fight and your own me first attitude wants to see it when you want to see it.

I understand the movie deal for Rampage was a big opportunity, but I believe, if possible, he should of worked with the acting around his UFC career; not the UFC career around his acting career. I guess ultimately it is Dana's decision and he let him do it.

On another note, I found it funny that he called people stupid on his twitter page when the rumors were circulating that he wanted to postpone the fight. Now who is stupid. lol. Not taking it personally, just find it amusing.

To the last anonymous dude (how come there's only, like, 10 percent of writers on here who bother to use a handle?):
This may well be what you would do, and what countless other spineless and selfish individuals would do - but please don't paint us all with that brush.
Myself, I'd be far too damn embarrased after saying, "I hate this guy, and I'm going to shut him up," to turn around and say, "right after I play Hollywood."
Rampage turned down fighting Machida, his excuse being he wanted Rashad so bad. Now it looks like he was scared of The Dragon at the time, and assumed he'd have an easier time against Evans. I guess the time on the show made him realize this fight wasn't going to be as easy as he'd thought either.
This isn't just about disappointed fight fans, remember - it's about the multi-million dollar hype-machine that is the UFC suddenly realizing they've thrown all this money at something that now isn't going to produce the anticipated return. Sure, the fight will still happen one day, but not with the same thunder behind it, and I know there are people at UFC and Spike headquaters doing the math right now.

What's the use of a handle, its still across the internet and no one will know who you are either which way.

If it was such a huge deal Dana would have made him stick to the fight by taking him to court as he signed the fight contract. But being smart he realizes a happy fighter is a better fighter.

And your saying if you had a dream you would not put off other things in life to follow them? That's a shame, even more so that you feel your worthy of judging someone who does.

Shocked_n_Awed said...

Anonymous (same dude, different dude, who knows? Therein lies the point behind the handle...):

Difference between chasing a dream and letting down lots of other people, with lots of other vested interests. If you're the sort of person who keeps coming up with dreams to chase, eventually people stop looking at you as idealistic, and start looking at you as someone making excuses. This isn't some bum sitting on his ass, hacking comments into an Internet forum, deciding he's gonna follow his dream - Rampage is already living a dream, dammit!

As for the judgemental comment, you do realize the comment I was responding to judged everyone else that had already commented to be hypocritical. Yes, I'm judgemental, always, as is everyone else; it's called human nature.

I still don't see the problem without the handle. So you can't reply to a person by a name... Big deal.

Maybe your dream is to be a UFC fighter while you sit on your computer worrying about handles. To Rampage maybe its a job he does to put food on the table, as he just happens to be really good at it.

One movie is not chasing numerous dreams its one time. Live with it.

I have said this before, but I will say it again. Rampage is a pretty one dimensional fighter. His career is a mixed martial artist. He is living a dream. He's been a champion. Had two opportunities to coach TUF. He has been in the spot-light for what he does. I can't argue that being in a movie will rake him in some good money. What I will say is that he is losing fans and respect from people in the mma community and I doubt he will earn many new fans from being in a B movie. As a fan I would have rather seen him work on some new fighting techniques. Some kick-boxing, some bjj, something other than acting. I also agree that he is scared to fight Machida and unfortunetly it looks as though he is scared to fight Evans. Which just adds to my argument that he should work on diversifying his skill set. It looks as though he is getting what he can while he can get it.

Hey, listen everybody, there is really no point in insulting one another, let's be mature about this thing. Everyone on here has valid points. As fight fans sure we are all disappointed, we want to see the big grudge match fights when the flame burns hottest. I have been watching MMA since '93, I mean every type of event from the UFC to the tiny Gladiator Challenge events with 500 people in attendance. I waited 4 years to see Shamrock and Ortiz finally get it on. We all had to wait for Chuck and Tito for a couple of years while Tito was off making movies too, I believe. Did those fight lose any of their appeal? No, in fact at the time I believe both events broke all of the revenue records that had previously existed before they aired. (Note: It is too bad that Tito lost his belt to Randy before Chuck beat him down the first time.) What it all comes down to is business, making money and capitilizing on your fame at the moment. No one man can deny another man the opportunity to make an income. Does it suck as a fan? Absolutely! Just be patient, this bout will go off and more than likely it will headline or be the co-main event at the Super Bowl weekend event. Now how's that for hype!? Shocked_and_Awed your hilarious dude, you bring up some good points! By the way I'm not the "Anonymous" that was bickering at you. lol

i love how people trash talk rampage as a fighter, you say he's one dimensional because he is a striker, but no striker who is one dimensional goes anywhere in this sport anymore. he's got good wrestling, he's got fantastic submission defence. he's got all the tools he needs to keep you on your feet where he can knock you out. That being said, postponing the fight is a dummy move, but i will be excited to see it whenever it does come to fruition.... and Rampage will make a hilarious Mr. T and you all know it!

2ndcomingof2pac said...

Not even gonna watch the movie bro!
If rampage is so good standing, why was did he pass up machida?

Well then.... I dunno whats on the go with Rampage, ever since he lost 2 Forrest he just wasnt/isnt the same guy/fighter anymore. I know he wanted 2 b Mr.T (who doesnt?) but ur job #1 priority is 2 fight in the UFC & not the other way around. U dont work ur fighting around plan B, u work plan B around ur fighting.

If anything this is Danas fault, Y? u ask, well hes the boss Dana makes the final say, I guess Danas ok with Rampage putting fighting/his #1 duty (outside his family) 2nd, how many of ur bosses let u do whatever u want? when 2 work? when u want 2 & fight? who u want 2? etc I'm going 2 tell my boss I cant come 2 work b/c I'm going 2 b in a tv show or episode... what do u think he would say?!? OHHH its on company time (pretty much), b/c Rampage is going 2 act instead of train 4 his fight.

This is going 2 b the beginning of the end 2 the UFC with who they will allow 2 "skip fights when another opportunity comes up" or saying no 2 a guy who has the same opportunity (as Rampage) but Dana will not let him/them go.... b/c Dana has his favorites. EX: BJ move up 2 WW & u get a guaranteed title shot @ GSP b4 guys who've been fighthing @ WW for yrs.

Bulllllllllllllll Shit!!!!!!!

#1 They never signed bout agreements that is why he was able to do the move and the U.F.C. could not stop him. #2 I believe I read somewhere he was offered like 2 or three million to play the role and that is an obscene amount of money to walk away from for a fight that pays him like 350,000. Any fight can be your last so you have to make the money when you can where you can even though he has money now I'm sure he vividly remembers sleep in a van.

2ndcomingof2pac said...

2 or 3 million? insert the footnote. Source? come on buddy this shit is important. You chose to remain annonymous. No good buddy. This is the internet. MMA Insider... Not Obscure outsider from a bullshit fake ass grocery store publication.
LOL If he really got 3 million... He did the right thing.

Shocked_n_Awed said...

Well, from Dana's recent video posted here, apparently Rampage ain't makin' no $2- or $3-million.

To my 'Anonymous' friend - you're missing the point. The point I'm arguing with you is that it's not okay to "chase a dream" whatever the cost all the time. It's not fair to toss that out as a catch-all excuse for actions.

I'm a huge Rampage fan - I was far more excited to see him come to the UFC than Cro Cop or Silva, and I think he'll make an awesome B.A. I just happen to also believe he's pissin' in the faces of his fans and management by doing it at this juncture, because it pulls him from this fight.

And for the record, I've got no desire to be a UFC fighter. My fat ass would be sittin' on the mat within three minutes of running around the ring trying not to get tagged. My dreams all involve piles of cheeseburgers, pounds of marijuana, six naked fat chicks and a duck. Don't ask.

As an aside, they probably could have used an all-UFC cast if they'd wanted - Forrest as Murdoch, Franklin as Face and old man Couture as Hannibal perhaps? Or Buffer?

Anonymous said...

All UFC cast would be quite the site...lol.

After watching the first episode of season 10 I am thinking Rashad's team will have the upper hand. He's got Greg Jackson as a coach and their team actually yells instructions which is a big help.
