"Yeah, I think if Quinton beats Jardine, he'll get the next shot at the title," said UFC president Dana White following Wednesday's UFC 94 pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas.
And that is regardless of the outcome of a key battle at UFC 94. Lyoto Machida, the No. 4 ranked light heavyweight fighter in the world, and No. 10 ranked Thiago Silva are slated for a showdown in the top undercard fight at UFC 94. Both have been on a tear through the 205-pound division and both are undefeated.
But while the winner of Machida vs. Silva is likely to narrow the field of contenders to the title currently held by "Sugar" Rashad Evans, it appears that Quinton "Rampage" Jackson -- with a win over Keith Jardine at UFC 96 on March 7 -- will jump to the head of the line.
White has stated in the past that Jackson vs. Evans might have already been on tap, but Evans was not fully recovered yet from his title victory over Forrest Griffin at UFC 92, so they put Jackson and Jardine together for the Columbus fight card.

What about Jardine? No one's entertaining the idea that he might actually win. I think he'll be constantly overlooked because he doesn't have that "championship image" that the UFC looks for.
Well, likely, there just isn't enough hype around Rashad and Evans fighting at this point for them to take the fight. They are teammates and likely won't fight each other unless they are both apt to make big bucks.
why have I seen so many people type out "rashad and evans" when talking about rashad and someone else? I've seriously seen this several times now. Anyways I'm pulling for jardine and silva
So if lyoto wins he stills get screwed for a title shot that's some BS!
I for one cannot wait to see Rashad fight Evans. Talk about a dream match up. Its too close to call but should be one hell of a fight. Talk about action.
Are you guys for real, WTF????
screw lyoto, he sucks. MMA is still a new sport and the point systems are so new it's hard to compare what actions are worth more. And because of how new it is, the judging for points are absurdly subjective. Lyoto machida should have lost many of his fights for not being aggressive. Ortiz, as much as I dislike titor, should have won that fight because he attempted to finish with that sub. Lyoto never attempted to finish, only peppering shots. Should he have won that fight?
Of course, aggression or finishing attempt isn't as high as landing some punches in scoring because the sport is so new still.
Lyoto rightly won a decision over tito....the previous post said tito should have won because he attempted to finish with a sub. That is absurd tito got picked apart the entire fight his takedowns were stuffed but he should have won because he went for a submission at the end of th fight? That makes no sense. Lyoto is a patient counter striker with actual strategy to his game. and about agreesion not being scored as high because the sport is new. SHould have tito scored points because he was agreesive even though he caused no damage? If thats the case one can be agressive swing wildly and win a decision simply because they were agressive not because of actual skill. I am not a big fan of Lyoto's style but he clearly has beaten his opponents and deserved the W
its not about fair for machita .the ufc is more like wwe than any other pro sports in that the company decides whos ranked not a seprate mma mag. or other organization. its the most maketable fighter at that time who get the fights. he%& im afraid well have to see chuck be nocked out 10 times in a main event before to many get a shot. if its was fair quinton would have got a rematch allready. its all about what 2 fighters the ufc believe is the biggest draw at the time. heres my take : jardine (steping stone untill his 6 figure contract in over) chuck (great contract. i guess, lol) machita ( 1 of the greats with fedor, a. silva) jackson (good fighter, great draw) forest ( 2 tough 4 his own good, but i love'm) evens (dam good allaround, but his disrepectful gesture's make it clear he has no class)
ya i know y does chuck keep getting big fights ???
machita needs to talk some trash or something to be more marketable. we've never seen him fight out of a jam. cuz he doesnt take big risks to get in a jam. credit to him. its not enough to have beaten bonner, franklin & penn, tito. he needs to say he wants to kill silva , o ya thats been done to get us to buy the mismatched rematch.
jardine, lol. good fighter but shouldnt he get a win again before hes in a match with a title shot on the line? fff- jackson just ko'd v.silva who ko'd jardine. doesnt make much since, even a silva , jardine rematch seems meaningless. i dont get it. i cant see paying to see that. its clear to me forest & quinton for the title shot.
machida doesnt fight. he runs. vs tito he backpeddled the whole 3 rounds. he doesnt deserve to be in a main event. He should be fighting bonner on prelims. too bad wec doesnt have 205 weight class anymore. id rather see him on vs than a ppv i paid for.
I cant believe there are people on an MMA website that dont respect the insanely intuitive and fighting skills of machida. watch all his fights PLEASE. his countering is perfect. his defense is above par...and his striking accuracy is on anderson silva levels. he is not a boring fighter if you see what he's doing. tito couldn't land one shot against machida, yet machida landed almost every shot, took him down at will, stuffed every shot tito went for and hot damn that knee to the liver was beautiful. please dont be a hater be a realist and respect a true martial artist. jardine vs. jackson who cares. I want to see machida win the belt and defend it forever...no one can figure out his true martial arts style.
6 months from now machida will be fighting sokodju (i know thats not how you spell it) on an affliction prelim. Nobody cares about machida. hes boring and doesnt fight. WEAK!!!
I've said this before in a thread long ago, but Machida is BORING!Yes, he comes with a good game plan and picks apart his opponents slowly, and usuals win by decision. He's a tough opponent. I think the only way he'll get respect is if he fights another poster boy and be forced to be given a title shot like Rashad Evans got his. Until he gets the big knock outs and submissions, he'll continue to be overlooked. In the end, it's marketing. The guy headlining the company has to be able to bring in the business and cash flow. And don't compare it to Japan please because over the guys are treated like kings even down to professional wrestlers.
