Chuck Liddell Training wilth Boxing Olympic Gold Medalist

PRESS RELEASE:

Chuck Liddell is getting some extra help on his boxing skills from 1976 Boxing Olympic Gold Medalist Howard Davis Jr., who has been in Chuck"s training camp for the past month.

"I"m helping Chuck with his striking and making sure that he uses his hand power to the fullest," said Davis Jr., who serves as Boxing Director for American Top Team & is Co-Founder of Fight Time Promotions in Florida.

Howard Davis Jr. says he"s providing Chuck with the strong training regimen that professional boxers use. Davis joined John Hackleman, who is Chuck"s longtime trainer of 16-years, a month ago and plans to stay in California for another 2 weeks.

Davis Jr. is a busy man. When he gets back to Florida, he plans on putting together his first MMA show as promoter and is inviting all interested sponsors to contact him at: howarddavisjr.com. Davis" first show is appropriately dubbed "Brazil VS USA."

Chuck Liddell takes on Brazilian superstar Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 97 in Montreal in what promises to be one of the most explosive bouts of 2009! The 39-year-old former light heavyweight champion won an amazing 14 out of 15 UFC matches from 1999-2006, and is now focused on winning the title back from Rashad Evans, who defeated Liddell at UFC 88. Liddell is making sure that his renewed boxing skills can assure him a win.

Being a great boxer doesn't mean he is a good coach...

Liddell is an old dog and he wont learn new tricks in such a small amount of time.

hopefully its a sign that chuck is working as hard as he can for this fight

I'd like to see Chuck do well again, but he needs to change his gameplan and approach before he wins again. More takedowns and ground-n-pound will change his dynamic so the gameplans against him won't be so easy.

chuck isnt the same as he was, but since when does he need to improve his striking?

This is great! What do you mean! Davis is a great coach (ever seen him at ATT?) and Chuck can use all of the help that he can get. I invite Gustavo to train with Howard Davis Jr. for one hour! Bet you can't make it for more than 10-minutes.

The stand-up is just as important as ground work. I hope Chuck learned some new skills from Coach Davis.

Great idea from Chuck's camp. Many fighters forget how important boxing is to the game. He's got a great teacher in Howard Davis Jr.

Between this and working with ATT, it sounds like Chuck is focused and looking to break out of his rut.

While I don't know that this will make him any better, it is a sign that he realizes some changes are needed.

He isn't going to be drastically improved from just a couple months of boxing training. Once he's in the cage and starts getting hit, he'll probably revert back to his instinct to throw looping bombs, leaving himself wide open. He could get away with that when the competition in the UFC wasn't as well-rounded but we've seen that his style doesn't cut it with the new wave of top fighters.

Wow, a photo showing Chuck with his hands up. This I like.

Chuck isn't trying to learn new things. he is just tightening up his footwork, defense and combinations. Also Chuck never kept his hands up he was good at avoiding shots like Anderson. The only thing Chuck did wrong his last couple of fights was he would chase his opponents instead of having them come to him and counter which is what he did best.

Defense should be a strong focus for Chuck. His best defense has always been his strong offense so hopefully whatever this boxing coach is working on him with will payoff. Should be a great fight against Shogun whoever pulls off the win

Wow! Finally someone is getting it! All of the disciplines are key in MMA & why not improve boxing skills with the best. I hope Chuck gets an impressive knock-out. They're always exciting to watch!

If Chuck wins this fight by a knockout - Howard Davis is going to be considered a God for reviving an old do.

Always good to see fighters trying to get better. This should hopefully take Chuck to the next level.

Can't wait until April 18th. If Chuck has learned anything for this Olympic champ - then he should take home his gold!

I think it is good for Checuk to change it up a bit. But I don't think he needs to work on striking but DEFENSE so he doesn't get caught with a punch like he did against Rampage and Evans.

Or he can surprise anyone and take it to thr ground with his wrestling ability and let the divsion know they have to now consider multiple gameplans from Chuck in the future

The question is: Is Chuck willing to change his approach

Howard Davis Jr. works with most of the best guys at ATT. He knows what he's doing and Chuck is a great athlete. Nice combination.
