Matt Brown To Hold Benefit

UFC welterweight Matt Brown got the bad news a week after Anthony Johnson pulled out of their scheduled fight at the season nine finale of "The Ultimate Fighter." His father James had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a fatal type of cancer that attacks the blood.

James went into rapid decline shortly after the diagnosis, suffering a heart attack after a second chemotherapy treatment and stroke thereafter. Doctors released him into hospice care and gave him two weeks to live.

Brown flew back to his hometown of Jamestown, Ohio after hearing the news and has been by his father's bedside since. He has put training on the backburner.

On Saturday, Brown will hold an all-day event, "Bo's Bash," at Morris Pond in Jamestown to benefit a medical fund he has set up to help pay his father's medical expenses, which have threatened to take his house.

The event starts at noon and will feature live bands, a raffle for signed UFC merchandise, and an auction.

Brown has also set up a Paypal account for those who would like to make a donation.

Here is the corrected link for donating to the James Brown Medical Fund:
