Hieron Blasts "Green Light" Image

Jay Hieron says a recent video that named him chief humbler of inexperienced braggarts who come to Xtreme Couture--ie, that he beats the crap out of armchair warriors--is giving people the wrong idea. He's no brute in the gym.

"It's about respect," he told MMAInsider. "It's about having no respect for the gym. If these guys are trying to put me in my place, then they're not real fighters. That's like me going to your house and being a straight up asshole. Would you tell me to leave?

"So that's what it's about. It's not about me trying to beat up guys that can't fight. C'mon. What do I get out of that? I'm a professional. I get paid for this. That's the last thing I'm trying to do. It's a respect thing. And by all means, I'm happy to do it if somebody comes in and disrespects. I feel that's my house, and I'm going to protect it from apes.

"Everybody took it the wrong way. Everybody has their own opinion on it, and they don't know what the hell's going on. I just wanted to clear the air with that."

Hieron is, as ever, hard at work in the gym, preparing for his fight with Paul Daley at Affliction: Trilogy on Aug. 1 in Anaheim.

Armchair warriors should, however, stay away as a precaution.

"If I went to a gym and did that, I hope somebody would do that to me," said Hieron. "I'm not like that, but that's how we make our living. That's our workplace."

Anyone who complains about what Jay is doing has never trained at a gym that they call home.

I have seen the 'geen light' in action and the people on the reviving end deserved what they got. As Jay said there where very disrespectful.

I like Jay Hieron but That was stupid cuz if jay came to my house and a big o' fukin green light says get nasty and i start to whoop his ass i'm pretty sure he'll turn the tables and give me a worse ass whoopin just like i would "Try" to whoop his ass in his own home. it's not disrespect if it's part of what the gyms asks.

This isn't freaking ballet, I'm sure it goes on at every gym, not to the guys that want to learn, but to the bad a** frat boys who come in with their puffed out chests ready to take a cheap shot at a world class fighter. Good for Jay!

I suppose it's silly to name your stable XTREME COUTURE [!] and expect it to attract the classiest of enthusiasts. Just saying.

I bumped into Jay at a club in Vegas and he couldn't be nicer. The guy is not an a$$hole and doesn't need to beat up on nobody's to feel better about himself. He knocks out pros on a regular basis. The guy, like anyone, just thinks that if you're going to try your hand at the sport that he loves, you better come with some respect. Completely understandable.
