"If the worst thing that happens to Gina (Carano) or Forrest (Griffin) is they lose a fight, they're doing pretty damn good."Such are the words of the namesake of Carano and Griffin's training gym, Xtreme Couture, former UFC champion Randy Couture.
"It's all part of the process. I don't think there's anything negative there," said Couture during a media call on Tuesday to promotion his upcoming fight at UFC 102 with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
"Obviously, Forrest was very emotional in the cage when he lost to Anderson (Silva), but I think that's because he works so damn hard, and like everybody, we all hate to lose. He's been back in the gym already. I saw him (Monday) here and he's back to training."
With a professional record of 16-9, Couture has been through the ups and downs of mixed martial arts many times. It all comes with the territory if you want to be a professional athlete, he says.
"I don't necessarily see that as a negative. It's all part of the learning and growing process," Couture pontificated.
"The same thing for Gina. Obviously she was a little embarrassed by the outcome (in losing to Cris Cyborg), but overall she did a great job in that fight. She had some opportunities to win and she did some good things. She did some things we trained to do.
"I think the adversity of losing that fight is going to be very, very important for her development as a fighter.
"I know from my own experience, the fights that I've lost were very important to me, and if I could go back and change them, I don't think I would. I think I learned more and became a better person and a better athlete for having experienced those things.
"And I know Gina and Forrest are both in that same boat."

I am not a Forrest fan but guys that talk crap like he is overrated is funny. You would be killed if you step in the cage with him. He was a champion so he lost. He lost to the best in the world. Who is going to stop Anderson? I am a fan of Dan Henderson but I don't even see him lasting past the third this time. The only person I can see beating Anderson is if he goes to heavyweight and fights Brock. If you fight in the UFC you are the best in mma not overrated. Forrest is a punk. He lost to Rashad, Jardine, Tito. He is garbage. He beat a knowingly injured Shogun with no cardio - which was probably a gift from Dana for the original TUF fight.
He got a miracle decision over Rampage for the title and never defended the belt.
For the UFC he is overrated, not against regular people like poster #2 is saying. But in the UFC he is way overrated - just a good entertainer.

I'm not an Ultimate Fighter, I'm a fan, so I can critisize and analyze without having to get in the ring. Just because I don't play baseball doesn't mean I can't call a player crappy if I deem it so. That's what being a fan is.
Having said that, Silva's performance in this particular fight was absolutely dominating, and he might well have done that against whoever they put in front of him that night. Does this result in itself prove Forrest is overrated?

As for beating Anderson Silva, I still think Demian Maia is the guy best suited to beating him. I think it takes a guy with superior jiu jitsu to submit him or put him in a dangerous position on the ground like Lutter was able to do for a round.

The Shogun fight was a gift when Shogun was injured and had no cardio . The Rampage decision was B.S. and he lost to Jardine, Rashad and Tito as well as Jeremy Horn knocked him out. Notice how I never mention Anderson?

Saying the man is overrated is just stupid. The man has said many times he is not that technically good, but he will get in there and fight anyone. That in itself is a respectful statement. A lot of fighters in my opinion don't deserve some of the fights they get. I do however believe that Forrest has paid a lot of his dues and deserved a shot. As far as him against Anderson Silva I honestly thing there was something wrong with Forrest. Now I'm not trying to defend him and say that he is one of the greatest fighters of all time but to me it looked like he wasn't fully prepared for the fight. He didn't come out and brawl like he normally does and it really didn't look to me like Anderson Silva knocked him out. If you look at how he fell and how his hands went up it almost looked like he just quit.

I have been a hardcore MMA fan and participant since 2002.
I must agree that Forrest is an overrated fighter. His rating has slowly declined since he edged that decision over Rampage but no.5 in the light heavy's seems overrrated to me. He definitely belongs in the UFC but he has almost run his course in the LHW division and it will be hard to make another run at the belt with all the better fighters in the division.
I envy his hardwork and he definitely has the warrior's heart but lots of guys possess this. It is the talent combined with heart and hard work that will make you the world's best. I'm sorry to say Forrest just lacks the talent.
I'm an MMA fan and see the good that Forrest has brought to the sport, but he's only ranked so high because of his win over the then-champ, Rampage. That said, I do believe he won the Rampage fight (and I'm a Rampage fan). He was brutal with the leg kicks and really took it to him. Rampage agrees. As for Forrest being overrated - yeah, I kinda agree that it's strange to see him in the world's Top Ten. But then again, beating a champ and taking his belt will earn you many ranking points. Anyway, Forrest is still good for the sport and is entertaining to say the least.

Forrest Griffin is the most overrated fighter in the history of MMA.
Consider this..........the only reason people think Forrest is a good fighter is because he beat Sho Gun and Rampage. But think about those two fights. Sho Gun was in such bad shape that he shouldn't even have been in the Octagon. And for the Rampage fight, Forrest lost that fight. Rampage clearly won the 1st, 4th, and 5th rounds.
So in conclusion, the two fights that launched Forrest to fame were not by any means impressive victories. And, in my opinion, he actually lost one of those fights.
Forrest Griffin is not a good technical fighter. He has a lot of heart. Regular everyday people would get their asses kicked if they fought him so stop telling people "get in the ring". It's unrealistic and stupid as shit. But to those saying Forrest is overrated, he won the goddamn championship. Call it BS from the judges or call it whatever you want. He won it. He was the best in the light heavyweight and he has that championship win to prove it. And it was Shogun's choice to fight. It's not Forrest's fault he had bad cardio or was injured. He took advantage of it and came out with the win.
Forrest has shown that persistence and dedication will sometimes persevere over talent. This guy is the heart and soul of the UFC. His fights with Stephan Bonner were one of the classics of the UFC and a testimony to the heart of these men.
Forrest has some pretty good wins and some losses, but he is still in the game. I'm happy to see Forrest wasn't injured and that he will be back, if nothing else as a commentator.

Okay people. I’m going to make this simple because personally, I think Forrest is a top 10 LHW. Let’s be real people. Look at his resume. Regardless of what you want to believe, Griffin beat Rampage, ok. He won that fight. When he fought Tito, yes Tito won but it was because that last take down in round 3. Otherwise, it goes the other way. When he fough Rashad Evans, he was winning and looking impressive until Rashad got a good shot and takedown in the 3rd and he pounded him out. Same thing goes for the bout with Jardine. He was looking great in that fight until a well placed ackward right hand hit him on the temple. Oh yeah, he beat Shogun. Same Shogun that’s ranked top 10 in the world and has a title shot next month. Same one that beat Mark Coleman and knocked out Chuck Liddell. So what he got destroyed by Anderson Silva. Guys, its ANDERSON SILVA. He does that to everyone that acutally fights him. See Rich Franklin, Chris Leben, and Tony Frikland. They only guys in LHW that has a decent chance of beating Anderson is Rampage, Rashad, Shogun and Machida. I didn’t say they will, I said they have a chance.

6. Gegard Mousasi- Young up and comer. Reminds me of a young Shogun.
7. Little Nog- When is the last time he fought and he is still ranked in the top10. In his last fight, he was destroyed by Sokoudjou.
