Besides the fights maybe going a little too fast, there really wasn't much for Strikeforce officials to complain about at Saturday night's "Carano vs. Cyborg" event in San Jose, Calif.Cris "Cyborg" Santos proved herself one of the most dominant women fighters in the world by taking out the "face of women's MMA," Gina Carano, as the bell sounded to end the opening round. In the process, she captured the first ever Strikeforce women's 145-pound championship.
With exciting finishes from beginning to end on the Showtime telecast, Strikeforce officials also had to be pleased with the attendance. "Carano vs. Cyborg" drew 13,524 spectators, according to the promotion. That was slightly better than they had anticipated.
"We're scheduled to do 10-12,000. That's what we were anticipating," said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker earlier in the week.
Official numbers will come later from the California State Athletic Commission, but if they're anywhere near the 13,524 number, Strikeforce officials will surely be pleased.

I was there and there were a lot of good fights, most of them upsets. Carano wasn't quite on here game tonight, Cyborg is strong and seemed to out muscle her. At one point Carano had her mounted and then let her up. I don't know why she didn't punish her while she had her mounted.
The ref also stopped the fight about 1/2 second before the bell rang. He could have let it go a half second. I would have liked to see a second round. Gina was never really able to establish her kicks which seem to be her strength. I am disappointed for her as she is amazing. Hopefully she will come back stronger and more confident. Who else is Cyborg going to fight that would even come close. Already looking forward to the rematch.
it was a great card but really who is left to fight Mousasi and Cyborg, Carno will get her rematch after they both fight one more woman and as for fedor dont get me started, he is good but really how good is he, if he hasnt fought the best in the heavyweight division right now, the guys he's faced in his last 2-3 fights are all past their prime. Are guys like Brett Rogers, Overeem, Werdum really gonna challenge him...i just think that Strikeforce lacks the depth to put together great fights. Mousasi destroyed Strikeforce's champ, who else is there?? he belongs in the UFC without a doubt, the light heavyweight division is one of the deepest in the UFC Mousasi will be challeneged there.
I'm sorry but I am still not sold on Strikeforce. The only fight I would even think about paying for or going to see from them already happened. Fedor is the most overrated fighter in the world and any of their champs would get dominated in the UFC with the exception of Cyborg. When Strikeforce has enough depth to produce great fights then I will reconsider my position. By the way, Anderson Silva is the best pound for pound in the world. I would put Silva, St. Pierre, BJ Penn and Mike Thomas Brown above Fedor as best pound for pound fighters.

Good card. Mousasi vs Lindland next???? Lindland is naturally a 185 guy. Who else is there? Babalu really showed why the UFC gave him his walking papers. People shouldn't get to excited over Mousasi just yet, remember Jason Lambert knocked out Babalu in the UFC. Jason Lambert didn't do very well against any decent competition.

Thank God for Strikefarce Werdum beat Mac Kyle. They need someone for Fag-dor. Overeem has been knocked out by LHWs. Brett Rogers has fought one name in Andrei Glass-Jaw-Ski.
Where this can be exciting is the LWs. With Dream in the mix Gilbert doesn't have to wait for the always injured Josh Thompson.

The card they announced last night showed Fedor and Rogers. Dont expect them to fight yet. Strikefarce cant afford to blow their wad right away. The only risk is that either one of them loses, than what?

Fedor is a loser. He is the only fighter I have known to lose so much credibility without even fighting. The world's best athletes desire to compete against the world's best. He clearly is NOT. I hate seeing fighters turtle and the fights stops. I know it is because they aren't doing anything but Gina was fine when they stopped it. Turtling when they get rocked is different. Gina was just trying not to get hit from the barrage of punches so they stopped it. I think the ref should have waited for the bell and let us see another round.

Great card my ass, this was a butchered slapped together last second production and it showed. None of the fights were an even match up, save the Melendez fight, anyone who knew their MMA knew very well Carano was going down to the better fighter.
What on earth was with Strikeforce and those STUPID "keys to victory" garbage segments? I've never been so bored waiting for a fight to happen, Strikeforce has some of the keys they need, but they badly need to step up production and keep the audience focused with actual entertaining segments, the key to victory is to win by any means necessary, how hard is that to explain?
The Carano fight was NOT stopped early, if anything, it should have been stopped 3-4 seconds before it did. Carano was getting her head beat in and she was not defending, that's a clear sign to stop the fight.
You fanboys can paint that anyway you want, but when a fighter is not defending themselves, the fight is over, plain and simple REGARDLESS of how much time is on the clock. Carano was not fine after the fight (cracked tooth and medical attention showed otherwise), she was hurt and another round she would have been worse off. The ref made the right call, I know that's hard for you "hottie Carano" fans to take, but she was not defending herself in a turtling position, no attempt to fight back, the ref made a great stoppage, no amount of crying will ever change that.

So a fight shouldn't be called off because a fighter is turtling and not defending themselves? There's plenty of other position to put yourself in if you aren't trying to get hit.
Call me old fashioned but when a fighter is clearly getting beaten up, making no attempt fight back and instead just trying to block shots I think the fight is over, maybe I'm just naive that way, but I hate to think of any fight that continues on when one fighter is pounding away and the other fighter is just sitting there with his/her hands attempting to shield shots while making no attempt to fight back. That's schoolyard garbage right there.
And of all people Gina herself did not complain about the stoppage, what does that say to you? She lost, get over it.

Carano did fine, I am sure if she took the same vitamins Cyborg takes, the fight will be closer next time. I still have no idea why Carano jumped up when she was in mount position.
MMA is a sport. Most people think MMA = UFC, and no other. Strikefore is providing some of the best fights, I admit UFC has most of the best fighters except for Fedor, Aoki, Mousassi, Lawler.
I like Strikeforce, and I love that there is competition for the UFC. Unfortunately, the announcers are terrible. Carano is in no way a world class fighter. Women fighting is not something that is ready to be at the forefront. There is 1 good woman fighter in the world and it is Cyborg.
It is too bad the card fell apart, it would have been better with Overeem, and Diaz both fighting.

P.S...Fedor has no one good to fight in Strikeforce? Wrong. Undefeated Brett Rogers is a top 10 HW with devastating KO power. Werdum is the 2nd best Jiu Jitsu HW in the world. Arlovski is still a threat and may get a rematch. Eventually the most dangerous HW of THEM ALL will come out of hiding Antonio Silva. "Bigfoot" Silva would be Fedor's most dangerous fight by far.
