It's always a proud moment for a fighter when he receives his black belt in any martial art, and Dan Miller is the latest to celebrate the achievement. On Friday, he was awarded his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt by trainer Jamie Cruz.
Miller's lead trainer and manager, Mike Constantino, made the announcement about his fighter, who is preparing for a UFC 109 showdown against fellow black belt Demian Maia.
His instructor, Jamie Cruz, comes from the lineage of Renzo Gracie, who awarded him his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The New Jersey native is a former IFL middlweight champion and currently 3-1 in the UFC with wins over notable fighters like Matt Horwich and Jake Rosholt. His last fight out was the only loss he has suffered in the UFC, a three-round decision to current top ten fighter Chael Sonnen.
Miller is currently in camp and preparing for his Feb. 6 showdown with Maia in Las Vegas.
