Instant Replay Used for the First Time In Nevada MMA

Matt Hamill was declared the winner by disqualification against Jon Jones on Dec. 5 at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale after Jones landed three illegal elbow strikes to the face of Hamill.

Referee Steve Mazzagatti stopped the fight and determined Hamill was in no condition to continue due to the cut on his nose.

To determine whether or not the illegal strikes contributed to the facial wound that stopped the fight, instant replay was used for the first time in Nevada in a mixed martial arts fight.

"This is actually the first time instant replay has been utilized in Nevada" said Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer.

After reviewing the tape, Mazzagatti awarded Hamill the win by disqualifying Jones.

Fight was over before the elbow strikes. It should of been a "no contst" if anything.

I agree, Hamill gets a massive beat down for 2 minutes and Mazaggati stops the action because of an illegal strike, what a moron. Definitely should have been stopped earlier then that, and if not then yes no contest at the very least.

DID YOU GUYS SEE THE FIGHT? HE DIDNT DO ANY BIG DAMAGE UNTILL THE ELBOWS MOST OF THE SHOTS WERE HITTING HAMILLS ARMS.I DO AGREE HAMILL LOST BUT I AGREE THE DQ WAS JUSTIFED ALSO.

DONT YOU KNOW CAPS MEANS YOU MUST BE RIGHT!?!?

Hamill's a good fighter, but he was not making an effort to improve his position, and a case can be made for the "not intelligently defending himself" argument.

On a side note, I didn't know any SAC's were using instant replay. This kind of thing should help avoid situations like crocop/turk, where an eye poke decided the fight.
