Five Finger Death Punch Guitarist Makes UFC 111 Picks
So it is no surprise that with UFC 111's intriguing match-ups, that some of the sport's more famous fans are lining up to give their opinions.
One such fan is Zoltan Bathory, founder and guitarist of heavy metal standouts Five Finger Death Punch and co-owner of MMA clothing line Alphadog Combat Gear.
Bathory recently told MMAInsider that when it comes to the evening's main event between UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and Dan Hardy, his money - literally - is riding on the champ.
"If I had to bet on it, I would say it is going to be GSP winning this," announced Bathory.
"I know Dan Hardy has been aligned with Matt Serra, (but I) think he is talking a little too much for this (fight). This is a 50/50 (type match-up), but I tend to think that GSP will come out on top."
Bathory is also intrigued by the evening's heavyweight title eliminator fight between former champion Frank Mir and top contender Shane Carwin.
"That is going to be another interesting one because I think Frank really wants to get back at Lesnar," commented Bathory. "He is more likely not even focusing on this fight - it's like he's focused on getting back to the title."
While Bathory senses Mir's ultimate motivations may be elsewhere, he still bets that the hunger Mir has for returning to the title picture will drive him to come out on top.
"Of course you can't (look past) Shane Carwin - he's no joke and you can't really (disrespect) the guy - but I would put my money on Frank in that one though."

Dan Hardy Talks Boxing And What's Wrong With The Sport
A big boxing match took place last weekend in Dallas when arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport Manny Pacquiao defeated Joshua Clottey in what has been regarded as a very lackluster, and unexciting fight.
UFC welterweight contender Dan Hardy weighed in on boxing during a media conference call on Tuesday, where even he as an admitted boxing fan doesn't like the sport nearly as much these days.
"I've always been a huge fan of boxing, I'm really selective about what boxers I watch, and about what fights I watch," said Hardy.
"I would say probably unfortunately now 50 or 60% of the time I've watched a boxing match I've been looking forward to, I kind of feel like I've been robbed of 45-minutes of my life."
Hardy talked about the Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight, and the style that bores him in the ring.
"In a boxing ring to a certain extent the boxers can hide," said Hardy. "Clottey didn't really want to fight Pacquiao, he didn't come to win. It was kind of like my fight against (Akihiro) Gono, my first fight in the UFC. The guy didn't come to win, and they're not my kind of fights. I really struggle to watch those kinds of people."
Still, growing up a boxing fan, Hardy likes the sport for certain fighters, but also feels that the excitement and adrenaline surrounding MMA are some of the reasons why the sport is blowing up world wide.
"I like guys who are taking the risks, who are putting their neck on the line," said Hardy.
"People need to see that intensity in the fight. That's what boxing's losing, don't get me wrong, there's some fantastic fighters out there, and I'll always watch the big boxing matches when they come on, but at the end of the show I'm not always happy I've watched it."

Jon Jones Not Looking For Hamill Rematch
Since debuting in the UFC, Jones has done anything but slow down the momentum that he's been riding since a signature win over one of the original "Ultimate Fighter Season One" cast member Stephan Bonnar.
Jones was undefeated until a bout opposite fellow wrestler Matt Hamill came to pass, ending in controversial fashion. Jon used illegal 12-to-6 elbow strikes, resulting in a disqualification and the first loss of his young professional career.
You'd think Jones would want to right a wrong, get a piece of his once undefeated career back, but he's perfectly content with what has passed. It's all just another experience for the young 22-year-old.
"I definitely wouldn't want to have a rematch with Matt Hamill," said the newly minted Greg Jackson fighter.
"I actually hung out with him a few weeks ago -- well, several weeks ago. We were both down in Miami, taking care of some things for Dana (White). He's just a great guy. He has a great personality, great heart.
"(The fight) was a great learning experience for me. It was the first fight that I was really relaxed, I was thinking the whole time, and it was the first time I was actually having fun instead of being nervous out there. It was just a great experience. Win or lose, it was a wonderful thing and I wouldn't change what happened for the world."
Dan Hardy Talks About Marcus Davis and Psychological Warfare
Prior to the fight, Hardy did everything in his power to rile up the Irishman, and he accomplished his goal. A Photoshop contest amongst fans, and some well placed trash talk, brought Davis to a frenzy before their fight ever happened.
Right after the fight, Hardy admitted that it was all part of a strategy to get into Davis' head and earn a shot at the Maine based fighter. Still even though the fight seemed over, Davis fired back just weeks ago via his Twitter account stating, "I hope Dan Hardy dies of AIDS."
The comment was eventually deleted, but Hardy says that Davis obviously didn't know when enough was enough.
"Some people can't see it for what it is. Obviously with Marcus Davis making a comment like that it obviously proves he can't deal with the situation, and he doesn't get it," Hardy commented recently when appearing on MMAWeekly Radio.
"Apparently the Photoshops that I helped create were completely unacceptable, yet he makes a comment like that (and) it's okay? I don't understand where his logic lies."
Hardy admits that psychological warfare goes a long way, and he's become a master of that particular trade.
"Any time you can use any psychological warfare, it's different for every fighter," Hardy said. "The Marcus Davis fight was a blatant, outright, I'm going to punk him, I'm going to make him look stupid, and you're going to get crazy and lose your mind.
"Mike Swick was a little bit more fun, a little bit more jokey, but when it got to the end of the build up of the fight, he'd been expecting me to say all kinds of stuff that he didn't know really how to deal with it. He didn't know how to prepare himself for what was to come."
Hardy's teammate, Paul Daley, has started a similar campaign for his upcoming UFC 113 fight against Josh Koscheck. Daley encouraged fans to Photoshop a new haircut for Koscheck ahead of their fight, and when Hardy was asked if he would possibly put the best photo on his walkout t-shirt for UFC 113?
"Don’t give him any ideas, you know he will," Hardy responded.

Dan Hardy Debuts His Version Of "England Belongs To Me" At UFC 111
Hardy talked about his choice of songs when appearing on MMAWeekly Radio earlier this week.
"I'm using some traditional British punk again. I'll be using the same song, "England Belongs To Me" by Cock Sparrer, but this is a re-recorded version with me putting the vocals on it, so an interesting one," Hardy said about his UFC 111 entrance song. "It's got a bit more balls than the last one as well."
Growing up as a metal fan in England, Hardy says he started out with the classics and still follows his love of music to this day.
"My favorite band when I was younger was Megadeth," said Hardy. "I just went from them to Pantera, and Slayer, and then I just started getting into hardcore, Earth Crisis and Madball, and I also listen to a lot of the British punk and ska, like Madness and The Clash and bands like that."
The new track with Hardy's vocals will debut at UFC 111 in New Jersey. Check out the original below.

WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz Re-Airs Tonight on Versus
The re-air will also feature the bantamweight championship bout between Brian Bowles (8-1) and Dominick Cruz (15-1) as well as of the fight between former bantamweight champ Miguel Angel Torres (36-3) and seasoned wrestler Joseph Benevidez (12-1). Additional fights include UFC legend and crowd favorite Jens 'Lil Evil' Pulver (22-13-1) against Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Javier Vazquez (14-3) and 23-year old Karen Darabedyan (9-2) in the cage with veteran Bart Palazewski (33-13) in a lightweight fight. Rounding out the night are battles between Scott "Young Guns" Jorgensen (9-3) and Chad George (11-5) and lightweight opponents Danny Castillo (8-3) and Anthony Pettis (8-1).
Faber And Bonnar Pay Tribute To Sakuraba
Two of the fighters who proudly claim Sakuraba as their favorite are WEC featherweight, Urijah Faber, and UFC fighter, Stephan Bonnar, who both mentioned the Japanese fighter when speaking to fans at a recent Q&A session.
"I would say past or present, favorite fighter for me is Sakuraba," Faber said when asked who his favorite fighter was. "If you watch the guy, first off he's a wrestler, a top level wrestler, but he really has a great attitude out there. He's always out in front, really, really creative, and he's been in one of the most inspiring fights that I've ever seen."
The fight that Faber referenced was Sakuraba's last fight against Zelg Galesic, in which he pulled off a kneebar after suffering damage throughout the fight. Faber also mentioned Sakuraba's historic 2000 no-time limit win over Royce Gracie as a favorite performance.
Stephan Bonnar went one step further when paying tribute to the former Pride star.
"I love that guy, I even named my cat after him," said Bonnar.
The ageless Sakuraba continues to come up in conversations when fighters mention who they admire most, and for anyone that isn't sure about how good he really is, go back and watch his 2000 fight against Renzo Gracie, but don't expect to hold down your lunch when you see the finish.

Miguel Torres' Cut Gets 20 Stitches
The elbow that landed from Joseph Benavidez on Miguel Torres left the former bantamweight champion wearing a crimson mask for the remainder of their fight on Saturday night.
On Sunday, Torres posted a picture of the cut on his Twitter page (@MiguelTorresMMA) and said in a separate post that it required 20 stitches to close up.
The Indiana based fighter also said that he was breathing in blood during the fight, and obviously struggle to see much of anything.
Guess the old saying is true. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Benavidez and Torres Break Down WEC 47 Main Event
JOSEPH BENAVIDEZ:
I like Brian Bowles. He's a great guy, so as far as fighting him, we've trained together a little bit, and I'd love to have the fight with Dominick Cruz again. Of course I want to avenge my loss, and I know I'm better than that, so I could beat him. There's that aspect of wanting to fight Cruz again, but as far as the outside looking in, if I had to pick someone, I'd definitely pick Bowles.
I just think he has more ways to finish the fight. And if it's a five-round fight, the only way Dominick really has at beating him is a decision. It's going to be hard to stay away from his submissions and power for five rounds. He can maybe do it for three rounds. I just think that Bowles has more ways to finish the fight, and Cruz has one, which is to out point him.
You can't underestimate Cruz. He has that point, beating people on points down to a science basically, so it's going to be a great fight, but if I had to bet, I'd pick Brian.
MIGUEL TORRES:
At first when I looked at the fight I thought Dominick Cruz would have the edge, and then I started watching fights on Bowles and fights on Cruz, and Cruz fights with his hands down a lot, and he's fought a lot of shorter guys. A lot of his opponents have been shorter guys, so I think the same strategy that he's used against his past opponents and keeping his hand real low, Brian just needs one big punch to hurt Cruz. I haven't seen Cruz get rocked yet. I'm leaning more towards Bowles because with one punch you can change everything.
The fights that I've seen of Cruz, he moves very well, and he's a very good striker, but he leaves his hands real low. He might have the edge in wrestling. I think Dominick's wrestling is better than Bowles', but I haven't seen Bowles get pushed yet. I couldn't push him past the first round, so we're going to see. It's an interesting fight.

Bowles Feels Torres is Looking Past Benavidez
"Miguel's not known for not saying some crazy stuff," said Bowles.
"I really don't even pay attention to what he says anymore. I just let him say and do his own thing."
Torres was obviously still sore from the loss that ended an impressive 17-fight winning streak. It was the first finish that Torres had suffered of his two losses as a professional.
Never one to turn down a fight, Bowles is open to a rematch in the future, but believes that Torres has another daunting task on his hands when he meets spitfire bantamweight Joseph Benavidez, who Bowles also calls a friend.
"He's got a tough fight lurking ahead of him right now and he needs to be worrying about Joseph," said the WEC 135-pound champion.
"I'm friends with Joseph. I'd like to see him win. I'd like to see him fight for the title."
Strikeforce Champ Jake Shields Blasts Frank Shamrock
Cesar Gracie trained fighter Nick Diaz exacted revenge on April 11, 2009, TKO'ing the former UFC titleholder in the second round.
In a recent interview with MMAWeekly Radio, Jake Shields, Gracie trained Strikeforce middleweight titleholder, blasted Shamrock.
"Shamrock's a douche bag. He's not worth my time," said Shields. "The guy would never fight me. He's just trying to talk to keep his washed up career going."
Shields didn't stop there. He brought up teammate Diaz's one-sided victory over Shamrock last year.
"We saw what happened when he stepped in against a real fighter, against Nick Diaz. It was obvious he was on a completely different level than Shamrock."

Dan Hardy Thinks Bisping Beat Wanderlei at UFC 110
"I was a little disappointed. To be honest, in my opinion, it was either a draw or Bisping just edged it," Hardy told TapouT Radio. "I think the thing that hurt him was the knockdown at the final bell, but I thought Bisping did great.
"He looked good. He was moving well. He was countering well. It was just unfortunate that he couldn't have pushed the pace just a little bit more," addd Hardy.
"Wanderlei is very aggressive and looked great at that weight as well. It was an off night, but he'll be back. I thought it was a good performance."
Hardy and Bisping are both Englishmen, but train at different camps.
PTI Host Defends Frank Mir Comments
UFC president Dana White responded to the comments yesterday, and Mir himself issued an apology on Tuesday acknowledging the statement was out of line. That said one of the harshest critics of the sport, Mike Wilbon, defended Mir's comments on "Pardon the Interruption" on Wednesday.
"It's not out of line, I'm sorry this wouldn't even make the top 50 awful things Mike Tyson said he was going to do to an opponent some time that week before a big match in Vegas," Wilbon said when asked about Mir's comments.
"This is just how you promote boxing, MMA, wrestling, this is par for the course."
Wilbon went on to say that former heavyweight boxing champ, Mike Tyson, was the king of saying controversial things before his fights, so much so it actually frightened him at the time.
"Mike said things that when I was sitting there I got scared and wanted to leave the press conference," Wilbon commented.
Dan LeBatard, a columnist for the Miami Herald and ESPN contributor, who has been a fan of MMA for some time, brought up the fact that the sport is still trying to battle certain perceptions.
"Dana White is fighting something with this sport when John McCain calls it "human cockfighting", this sport is safer than boxing, because people don't know it, they look at it, they look at it and it's violent," LeBatard said. "It's safer than boxing. So when you have this thrown in it's something that Dana White's trying to get rid of with this sport."
ESPN programming has been featuring more and more MMA coverage lately, and a feature spot on one of the most popular programs, "Pardon the Interruption" can only be good for the future of the sport.

Miguel Torres Tells It Like It Is On Twitter
"I never wanted to be on Twitter and then Ecko, one of my main sponsors, they were like dude you've got to get on Twitter. They're like bro if you just tweet what you're talking about or tweet what you normally would say you'd have so many followers," Torres told MMAWeekly Radio recently.
"At first it was like a joke, and let's see what happens and I just got carried away with it."
A typical "tweet" from Torres could range from training to just his general thoughts on life. For UFC 110, Torres was in rare form Twittering gems like, "Bisping remembered the "Whoomp" but forgot the "there it is." That guillotine was as tight as Bispings a-- hole." and "When Chuck Norris goes to sleep, he wears Wanderlei Silva pajamas."
Always having fun, Torres says that the world is not getting a taste of what it's like to listen to whatever pops in his head.
"I tell you what my brain's pretty crazy and they got me on Twitter and let me put my thoughts on the screen so it's kind of nuts," Torres said.
The WEC's bantamweight star will also be handling guest Twitter duties for the UFC's Twitter page for UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.

Cro Cop Says He Wants To Fight UFC Pres Dana White
His boss. Cro Cop would like to fight his boss, UFC president Dana White.
"It's not about who I want to fight. It's the UFC's decision. I'd like to fight Dana White first," quipped the staunch Croatian at the UFC 110 post-fight press conference.
"It would be easy money for me, but I don't know," he quipped, before adding, "Maybe Ben Rothwell."
Rothwell was his originally scheduled opponent for UFC 110, but had to drop off the card due to illness.
Cro Cop hasn't proven to be the easiest guy for the UFC to deal with. He has consistently avoided PR appearances and interviews in their attempts to build up the legendary fighter's bouts. So maybe Dana White wants to fight him too.
Then again... probably not.

Velasquez: Nog Is A Lot Better Than Loss to Mir
During his preparation for the former UFC and Pride titleholder, Velasquez has studied tapes of countless Nogueira fights, but one he didn't put much stock in was the Brazilian's loss to Frank Mir at UFC 92 in December 2008.
"From watching all of the previous fights and the fights after that, I can't really study that night and say that's the same Nogueira that fought in all the previous fights and the fights after that," said the American Kickboxing Academy trained Velasquez.
Nogueira entered the bout with a staph infection and for the first time in his legendary mixed martial arts career, he was finished by an opponent.
"It's just a different guy. He just wasn't the same guy," stated Velasquez. "He's a lot better than he was in that fight."
